{"id":1042,"date":"2017-07-03T03:09:01","date_gmt":"2017-07-03T03:09:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=1042"},"modified":"2024-02-02T16:34:28","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T05:34:28","slug":"police-detective-framed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/police-detective-framed\/","title":{"rendered":"Police detective framed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>By Kate Taylor<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A portrait of former Moorabool resident Kevin Carson has been entered in the 2017 Archibald Prize.<br \/>\nDetective Sergeant Carson, who recently moved from Yendon, was painted by Ballarat artist Mr Milivoj Micich.<br \/>\nThe portrait was revealed last week at the Victoria Police Museum by Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton, and then at Ballarat City Council.<br \/>\nDetective Sergeant Carson has been a serving member for 40 years, and is known for being involved with the investigation into child sexual abuse within the Catholic Church in Ballarat.<br \/>\nHe is also known for his sense of humour \u2013 which was on show as he addressed attendees at the unveiling of the portrait.<br \/>\n\u201cFor those of you who said I\u2019m no oil painting\u2026 you\u2019re wrong.\u201d<br \/>\nThe event MC was long-time friend Paul Tatchell, a Moorabool councillor.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s a very large portrait. It shows his piercing eyes, and also his large hands which is perhaps a fitting metaphor for his protecting the people,\u201d Mr Tatchell said.<br \/>\nHe noted that Chief Commissioner Ashton congratulated Detective Sergeant Carson on his service.<br \/>\n\u201cHe grew up in Western Victoria, and he\u2019s a detective in Ballarat \u2013 he would have had to investigate people he knew and that\u2019s the calibre of the man. He\u2019s very professional. He\u2019s a very worthy person to be painted, he\u2019s someone who\u2019s dedicated his life to the police force &#8211; he\u2019s good subject matter,\u201d Mr Tatchell said.<br \/>\nMr Carson said he is truly honoured to be a face for those men and their families that are no longer with us, and was simply doing his job.<br \/>\n\u201cI do not consider myself to be exceptional. I consider the courage of victims and their families as exceptional,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nWith the Royal Commissions findings into Ballarat yet to be handed down, both Mr Micich and Detective Carson hope this portrait unites the Ballarat community ensuring the pervasive abuse of children highlighted by the Royal Commission will never be allowed to occur again.<br \/>\nMr Micich\u2019s aim is to be selected for exhibition by the Trustees of the NSW Art Gallery and to applaud the great man that is Detective Kevin Carson.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kate Taylor A portrait of former Moorabool resident Kevin Carson has been entered in the 2017 Archibald Prize.
