With the state election rapidly approaching, council organisations and councils themselves \u2013 including Moorabool Shire Council \u2013 are beginning to publish their \u2018shopping lists\u2019.<\/p>\n

Rural Councils Victoria (RCV), which represents 37 member councils, released its \u2018State Election Platform\u2019, last week with Moorabool Shire Council following suit, listing their set of priority projects.<\/p>\n

RCV has called for millions in funding for projects relating to road maintenance, services, housing, emergency management, and rural tourism, including $200 million over four years to reinstate the Fixing Country Roads Program, and $50 million a year for a \u2018Community Services Fund\u2019 for rural councils, similar to the Growing Suburbs Fund allocated to peri-urban and growth councils.<\/p>\n

RCV Chair Cr Mary-Ann Brown said rural Victoria was \u201cthe engine room of the state\u2019s economy\u201d, and needed greater investment from the State Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cRural Victorians and rural communities provide the majority of the agricultural and food produce that feeds Australia and brings in billions in much needed export dollars,\u201d Cr Brown said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOngoing support for the work of RCV is also necessary so that we can continue to provide the targeted, trusted and well-informed research to inform State and Federal government policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moorabool Shire Council\u2019s requests are more specific, with their \u2018top five priority projects\u2019 listed \u2013<\/p>\n
