{"id":1197,"date":"2017-08-15T01:24:58","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T01:24:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=1197"},"modified":"2024-02-02T16:41:09","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T05:41:09","slug":"business-as-usual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/business-as-usual\/","title":{"rendered":"Business as usual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">By Jessica Howard<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bacchus Marsh Maternity Unit may be under construction, but it hasn\u2019t stopped the delivery of over 100 babies.<br \/>\nThe $2.5 million renovation commenced in April this year, with the first stage expected to be completed by April 2018.<br \/>\nAndrew Freeman, Chief Executive of Djerriwarrh Health Services, said the upgrade works were welcomed by staff and families wanting to give birth.<br \/>\nHe said since the refurbishment commenced, 108 babies have been born, with a record number of six babies born within 24 hours between June 15 and 16 (as reported in The Moorabool News).<br \/>\n\u201cThe refurbishment project will boost the number of post-delivery beds in the maternity unit from 11 to 15, and prepare the health service to cater for up to 1,200 births per annum in the future\u201d.<br \/>\nWorks will also include the upgrading of existing nurse workstations and delivery suites, as well as the addition of a new three-bay nursery to the maternity department.<br \/>\n\u201cThe upgrade will better equip and prepare the Service to meet the immediate and future care needs of the Bacchus Marsh and Melton communities, and provide a more comfortable environment,\u201d Mr Freeman said.<br \/>\n\u201cRenovation works have required us to build a temporary new entrance to the maternity unit, and I want to thank patients and visitors for their patience during this time\u201d.<br \/>\nDuring the upgrade works, the maternity department will remain fully operational.<br \/>\nFamilies planning to give birth at the Bacchus Marsh &amp; Melton Regional Hospital are welcome to take a tour or speak to the Maternity Manager.
