{"id":1219,"date":"2017-08-30T03:55:32","date_gmt":"2017-08-30T03:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=1219"},"modified":"2024-02-02T00:12:10","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T13:12:10","slug":"ranieri-scores-bfls-robert-allan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/ranieri-scores-bfls-robert-allan\/","title":{"rendered":"Ranieri scores BFL&#8217;s Robert Allan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jessica Howard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moorabool\u2019s Riely Ranieri is the joint winner of the Ballarat Football Netball League\u2019s<br \/>\nunder-16.5 senior Robert Allan Medal.<\/p>\n<p>The Ballan resident claimed the prestigious award at the league\u2019s junior presentation<br \/>\nnight on Monday (August 28).<\/p>\n<p>Riely, who plays for North Ballarat, polled 14 points alongside East Point\u2019s Nick Stevens.<br \/>\nThe Robert Allan Medal was introduced in 2004 and sees coaches vote on their top three<br \/>\nplayers from the opposing side. Players are also awarded votes for inter-league and state<br \/>\nand Australian selection.<\/p>\n<p>The 16-year-old midfielder said he was shocked to have taken out the top award.<br \/>\n\u201cI didn\u2019t expect it, but I was pretty honored to win such an important medal for the<br \/>\nleague,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Riely\u2019s season saw his selection in interleague, the Greater Western Victoria TAC Cup<br \/>\nand AFL Goldfields.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing up to play Cairns and Townsville as part of AFL Goldfields was a really good<br \/>\nexperience for us boys,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe highlight of this season would probably have to be finishing first on the ladder<br \/>\nthough, as it meant a lot to us boys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, we were knocked out in the final so it was really good to finish on top this<br \/>\ntime around. Hopefully we can carry it all the way through\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>North Ballarat\u2019s under 16.5s will this week play Ballarat in the semifinal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am feeling confident. We lost by a goal last week but it was a first verses second team<br \/>\nclash so we get another chance. I think as a team we are pretty confident too, but we<br \/>\ncan\u2019t take that too lightly\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Riely said he hopes to carry on with his football and later make it to a higher level.<br \/>\n\u201cI will hopefully play in more squads which will help me potentially get picked and<br \/>\ndrafted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a Geelong supporter so if I could choose I\u2019d definitely go there\u201d. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jessica Howard Moorabool\u2019s Riely Ranieri is the joint winner of the Ballarat Football Netball League\u2019s under-16.5 senior Robert Allan Medal.
