The Department of Transport has put out a new transport alert, with nearly 500 roads closed as heavy rains continue to lash parts of Victoria.<\/p>\n
The Department is urging Victorians to carefully plan any travel, with areas of current concern being Seymour, Wodonga, Albury, Wangaratta, Corryong, Bright, Mansfield, Falls Creek, Mount Hotham, and Mount Buller.<\/p>\n
However, all parts of the state have been impacted by the weather, with the whole road network suffering significant damage including potholes and sections of road destroyed.<\/p>\n
The community is encouraged to familiarise themselves with road closures in their area before\u00a0travelling, to determine if it is possible to reach their destination.<\/p>\n
Crews right across Victoria have mobilised and have assessed more than 3200 roads and have repaired more than 74,000 potholes \u2013 however, significant damage remains, with repairs prioritised on roads where damage is a safety issue.<\/p>\n
Motorists are urged to drive with extreme caution, with an expectation the road surface will be damaged. Leaving extra distance between vehicles will help drivers get a better view of the road ahead.<\/p>\n
Drivers are reminded of the dangers of driving through road closures and into floodwater. Not all road closures are manned, and it is critical the community obey the signage in place.<\/p>\n
At the time of writing, there are 493 roads closed across the state. All current road closures are listed at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au.<\/p>\n
While there are currently limited\u00a0impacts\u00a0to train services on the Ballarat, Ararat, Maryborough, Geelong, Warrnambool, Seymour, Shepparton, Bendigo, Echuca and Gippsland lines, passengers are reminded to check the PTV or V\/Line websites before\u00a0travelling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
