There have been 103 outbreaks of viral gastroenteritis in childcare centres from 1 January up to 21 February 2023, compared with 69 which is the five-year average for the same period.<\/p>\n
Viral gastroenteritis is highly infectious, and may be serious for infants, people with suppressed immune systems, and the elderly.<\/p>\n
To stop the spread it\u2019s important to:
\n– Keep children at home if they have symptoms, and for 48 hours after symptoms cease
\n– Stay\/go home if you have symptoms, and remain at home for 48 hours after symptoms stop
\n– Wash hands well with soap and water (teach children to do this as well, and supervise them).<\/p>\n
If symptoms are severe or they persist, or you are concerned, see a GP for advice and possible testing.
