{"id":13928,"date":"2023-03-07T07:00:10","date_gmt":"2023-03-06T20:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=13928"},"modified":"2024-02-01T23:26:46","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T12:26:46","slug":"student-receives-tafe-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/student-receives-tafe-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Student receives TAFE award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<\/p>\n<p>A local Dunnstown student has been rewarded for his hard work during his studies, being named Federation TAFE\u2019s Apprentice of the Year<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-two-year-old plumbing student Aidan Murphy received the award at the 2023 Federation TAFE Awards for Excellence at The Mining Exchange on Thursday 16 February, and said it was a surprise and an honour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty strange to be honest, I certainly didn\u2019t expect it. I wasn\u2019t thinking that I was any chance, but I got the call that I\u2019d been nominated, did the interview, then found out I won\u2026I was pretty shocked really,\u201d Mr Murphy told the Moorabool News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got a very proud mother, that\u2019s for sure. Got a big Facebook post from her which I don\u2019t get often, I\u2019ve had people from around home, the footy club, cricket, and locals in Dunnstown come up and congratulate me. At first it was pretty overwhelming to be totally honest, but it was really nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since completing his Certificate III in Plumbing, Mr Murphy has continued working for the company he did his apprenticeship with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike any apprenticeship it starts pretty slow early and takes a bit to get going, but once I got to the end of my second year, start of my third year, things really picked up and got a lot more hands-on. The hands-on, problem solving aspects are what I really like about plumbing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still with my employer I did my apprentice with, he\u2019s kept me on as his third qualified employer. So now it\u2019s just doing work for him.
