The Chief Health Officer has issued an advisory notice to Victorians, warning the community of poisonous mushrooms growing in the state this autumn.<\/p>\n
Yellow-staining mushrooms and Death Cap mushrooms are known to grow in Victoria during the autumn months, with consumption of the latter possibly resulting in death.<\/p>\n
There is no home test available to tell safe, edible mushrooms from poisonous ones. <\/p>\n
To avoid poisoning, the Department of Health advises that you should only eat mushrooms purchased from a supermarket, greengrocer or other reputable source.<\/p>\n
Cooking, peeling, or drying these poisonous mushrooms does not remove or inactivate the poison.<\/p>\n
