Have you been thinking about fostering or adopting a pet form the local pound? You\u2019re not the only one \u2013 Moorabool Shire\u2019s Mayor has recently fostered, and now adopted, a new dog.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Rod Ward has been fostering a Kelpie x Poodle, named Koda, and along with his family have made the decision to make their home Koda\u2019s permanent home.<\/p>\n
\u201cMyself, my wife Annette and our three kids, especially our youngest Tahla, 17, have fallen for Koda. He is being horribly spoilt by us all,\u201d Cr Ward said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I heard there were dogs available to foster through the pound it was a no-brainer, we were definitely ready and eager to welcome Koda to our family and we\u2019re so happy to adopt him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Council\u2019s Acting Coordinator Community Health and Safety Mel Tatenhove said there were currently several dogs and cats benefiting from foster home placement.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlacing animals in foster homes has so many advantages,\u201d Ms Tatenhove said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst, it provides relief from the often, unavoidably noisy and stressful pound environment. Placing a pet in a home setting allows us to more accurately match a pet with its new owner.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout our dedicated foster carers, we couldn\u2019t do the work we do as we simply wouldn\u2019t have the space at the pound to accommodate the animals we get in.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Tatenhove said fostering a pet often led to adoption, which is crucial given the limited capacity at the pound.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t stress enough how amazing and vital fostering and adoption are for the animals that are dropped off at the pound. We are always grappling with increased demand at the pound so it\u2019s such a win every time we house a pet in a loving home.\u201d<\/p>\n
