Fortunately, the clouds cleared so those interested in stargazing could have the opportunity to view planets in the solar system at a recent outdoor event.<\/p>\n
Over 30 people gathered at Paddock Creek reserve in Gordon for an evening stargazing event, to view the Moon, Saturn, Neptune and various stars and constellations.<\/p>\n
Friends of Paddock Creek spokesperson Stephen Derrick, said he was happy with the fantastic view of Saturn during the event, describing it as \u201cbright and crisp and we could clearly see the rings and some of its moons.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also had a clear view of Neptune and the two of the stars of the triple star system called Alpha Centauri. One family even brought along their own telescope and practiced setting it up and viewing the sky.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gordon resident Darren Bellingham is a member of Ballarat Astronomical Society (BAS) and a night sky enthusiast, guided the stargazing event alongside two other representatives of BAS. <\/p>\n
Mr Derrick said Catherine King MP attended the event, and spoke about the importance of the Paddock Creek Reserve and how good it was to see people making use of the space. <\/p>\n
\u201cFriends of Paddock Creek are grateful to Minister King who assisted us with a grant through the Stronger Communities Program, to purchase this telescope.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Derrick also acknowledged the funding support provided by Moorabool Shire Council through a grant, that made it possible to engage the services of Ballarat Astronomical Society.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe stargazing events have been popular,\u201d Mr Derrick told the Moorabool News.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegistrations exceeded the capacity limit set to ensure every attendee could practice using a telescope and viewing the sky.\u201d<\/p>\n
Friends of Paddock Creek is considering holding more stargazing events in conjunction with the Ballarat Astronomical Society, in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
