A Moorabool teacher recognised for his service to the school community says it\u2019s a \u201cprivilege\u201d to be involved in education.<\/p>\n
Bacchus Marsh Primary School Assistant Principal Chris Brown received the Hawke Award this month, after seven years at the school, and 42 years working in education in total.<\/p>\n
He said it was an honour to be acknowledged with an award, for doing a job he loves.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was certainly a privilege, you work in education and the community because you value education, you value children and their families, so I was thrilled to receive the Hawke Award in acknowledgement of contribution to the school community,\u201d Mr Brown told the Moorabool News.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was certainly a surprise, you don\u2019t do these things for awards, but it was lovely to be recognised. It\u2019s a privilege to work with children, and help them to be the best version of themselves. My focus has also been on literacy \u2013 helping children to read, write, and speak, so that they can access the world, really.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Hawke Award was established in 2022 when the electoral district of Hawke was created, and is awarded annually to one person per participating school.<\/p>\n
It acknowledges a member of the school community who exemplifies the values of compassion, integrity, and contribution \u2013 all traits that MP for Hawke, Sam Rae, says Mr Brown has in spades.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn his role as Assistant Principal of Bacchus Marsh Primary School, Chris Brown has gone above and beyond for his students, staff, and school community. Principal Melinda Williams described Chris as ‘the leader that is learning, not the one that has learnt’ – a fitting tribute,\u201d Mr Rae said.<\/p>\n
