While Christmas is a time for many to get together and celebrate with loved ones, it\u2019s not always the case for some, as police unfortunately see a spike in family violence incidents during the festive period. <\/p>\n
Figures from the Crime Statistics Agency show on average there were 240 family violence incidents recorded daily across Victoria in 2022 \u2013 this figure was 358 on Christmas Day alone.<\/p>\n
Family Violence Command Assistant Commissioner Lauren Callaway is urging the community to look out for those close to them and be aware of the signs of family violence over the festive season.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Christmas we need perpetrators to stop and think of the damage they are doing to their partners and their children,\u201d says Lauren.<\/p>\n
\u201cFamily violence is not a spur of the moment loss of control, it is a learnt behaviour to control others. It is important we all understand this so we can look out for the signs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Victoria Police is committed to responding to all forms of family violence and holding perpetrators to account.<\/p>\n
