{"id":1823,"date":"2018-03-06T02:27:43","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T02:27:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=1823"},"modified":"2024-02-02T17:35:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T06:35:18","slug":"helping-with-the-education-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/helping-with-the-education-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping with the education journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jessica Howard <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chelsea Bell set off on her first day of university last week. <\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old Bacchus Marsh resident is studying a Bachelor of Applied Science and Masters of Speech Pathology at La Trobe University in Melbourne. <\/p>\n<p>Although a daunting experience, Chelsea\u2019s introduction to university has been made much easier thanks to the inaugural Bacchus Marsh Community Bank Scholarship. <\/p>\n<p>The scholarship is part of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank\u2019s Scholarship program, which has invested more than $6.5 million into helping 568 students realise their higher education dreams. <\/p>\n<p>Chelsea was presented a $3,000 cheque by Bacchus Marsh Community Bank Chairman, Claire Sutherland and Branch Manager, Ian Prince on Wednesday February 28. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis money will help me so much,\u201d Chelsea said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI lost my father a couple of years ago and we became a one income family. This money will help to pay for my text books and set me up for university\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Chelsea said she found out about the inaugural scholarship program through a careers councillor at Bacchus Marsh Grammar. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was excited and also really relieved when I found out that I was successful,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n\u201cI had my first day at uni yesterday, it\u2019s a lot different to high school but it\u2019s been fun so far\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Bacchus Marsh Community Bank Chairman, Claire Sutherland said the Board also awarded a contribution of funds to Bacchus Marsh resident Edan May, to support her first year of higher education. <figure id=\"attachment_1825\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1825\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/edan-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Bacchus Marsh Community Bank Chairman, Claire Sutherland (right) and Branch Manager, Ian Prince (left) with Edan.
