A drop from St Anne\u2019s Winery has taken home a top award at the annual Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show. <\/p>\n
The Tatalia 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the \u2018Best Cabernet Family Wine\u2019 at a presentation night held on Friday August 4.
\nAngus McLean, from St Anne\u2019s Winery in Myrniong, said he was thrilled to see the Cabernet Sauvignon recognised. <\/p>\n
\u201cShows like these are the fairest way to judge a product in this industry; each wine receives a certain amount of points, which amounts to either a gold, silver or bronze medal – it\u2019s good to win one of these, but the trophy is the pinnacle of those awards. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are thrilled, surprised and humbled\u201d. <\/p>\n
Mr McLean said the complex and robust flavours evident in the Tatalia Cabernet Sauvignon were a result of its harvest in St Anne\u2019s vineyard at Heathcote. <\/p>\n
\u201cHeathcote is a cool region with ancient deep soils and very little irrigation, meaning the area is dry and the fruit has very intense flavour,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThe Tatalia Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex wine that is imbued in our French Oak Barrels and can be cellared for ten years, easily\u201d. <\/p>\n
Judges at the Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show said the top drop showed \u201cbalance and complexity, with juicy vibrant fruit that was correct and integrated\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201c[We] could not say enough about this wine,\u201d the judge\u2019s report said. <\/p>\n
More than 200 producers and boutique wineries enter into the Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show each year. This year\u2019s panel was made up of four judges and three associate judges. <\/p>\n
