{"id":18412,"date":"2018-03-16T05:38:44","date_gmt":"2018-03-16T05:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=1855"},"modified":"2024-02-02T17:32:26","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T06:32:26","slug":"liberty-sew-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/liberty-sew-good\/","title":{"rendered":"Liberty sew good"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Kate Taylor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stunning Liberty fabrics will be on display this week, as the Ballan Red Cross Branch and Millrose Quilting &amp; Gallery present the Love of Liberty Quilt Exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Liberty of London is the theme of this year\u2019s event, and coincides with the Ballan Autumn Festival,\u00a0with the exhibition featuring quilts and garments made from the iconic fabric.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in the 1800s, Liberty of London is known for its style and beauty and is renowned around\u00a0the world \u2013 even Princess Charlotte has been spotted wearing Liberty print dresses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe exhibition features the iconic Tarna Lawn by Liberty of London \u2013 it\u2019s iconic, and it\u2019s all over the world, women\u2019s and men\u2019s shirts are also made out of it shirts, and women love sewing with it, it\u2019s such a beautiful fabric,\u201d explained Red Cross President Anne Eskdale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are exhibiting from all over Victoria, and we even have a quilt made from fabric bought before World War II.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur exhibition is to celebrate the Liberty fabric.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone who has something made from Liberty fabric will be part of the exhibit, as long as it\u2019s made from at least 50 per cent of Liberty fabric,\u201d Ms Eskdale said.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the third quilt exhibition run in conjunction with the Ballan Autumn Festival, and all of this year\u2019s proceeds are set to go to the local Red Cross unit.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will be held at Millrose Quilting and Gallery, which has an impressive collection of Liberty fabrics \u2013 not surprising, given that owner Sue Bartleman has been to the flagship Liberty store in London on numerous occasions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast time I was in London for four days and I went to the Liberty Store every day, sometimes twice a day,\u201d Ms Bartleman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiberty fabric is the reason I have my own quilt shop. I\u2019ve always been in awe of the fabric, which is very fine and silky. Once you stitch with it you never want to go back\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Millrose has also donated a sewing machine, valued at $1200, to be raffled at the show.<\/p>\n<p>The Love of Liberty exhibition will run from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 March, at Mill Rose Quilting and Gallery at 92 Inglis St Ballan, from 10am-4pm daily. <\/p>\n<p>Entry is $5.
