Most people have a cat or dog go missing, but recently an unusual reptile, for the area, was found.
\nCarpet pythons are generally found in habitats ranging from tropical rainforest in the north-east of Australia to arid and coastal regions, not in the Central Highlands.
\nWhen a Buninyong resident contacted the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) about a carpet python found in their woodshed a month ago it came as a surprise.
\nDELWP Program Manager of Compliance Operations, Jim O\u2019Brien said the python was well outside of the natural range and climate for this species.
\n\u201cHe is healthy and happy being handled, so he must belong to someone.\u201d
\nLovingly named \u2018Stanley\u2019 by the DWELP team, the non-venomous python appears to have been well cared for.
\nDELWP is hoping an owner will come forward looking for the nearly three-metre reptile.
\n\u201cWe would love to hand him back to his owner, so \u2018Stanley\u2019 can continue to be cared for.\u201d
