{"id":18456,"date":"2019-01-14T13:57:59","date_gmt":"2019-01-14T02:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=2356"},"modified":"2024-02-02T18:06:26","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T07:06:26","slug":"stage-2-new-streetscape-works-commence-in-ballan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/stage-2-new-streetscape-works-commence-in-ballan\/","title":{"rendered":"Stage-2 new streetscape works commence in Ballan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Meg Kennedy<\/p>\n<p>The makeover of Ballan\u2019s town centre is now underway, with new bench seats and car spaces the biggest additions to Inglis St in the new year.<br \/>\nCommencing on Monday, 14 January, Stage-2 of Ballan\u2019s streetscape upgrade will see the south-side of Ballan &#8211; between Cowie and Fisken Streets \u2013 continue the redesign of Inglis St, which went under extensive upgrade works in August last year.<br \/>\nThe area will see the installation of 11 bench seats, nine new parking spaces, five bins and three bicycle rails.<br \/>\n\u201cIn a growing community I am sure the nine extra car parks will benefit both the traders and community,\u201d said Mayor Paul Tatchell.<br \/>\n\u201cI would also like to acknowledge the business owners and community members that gave up considerable time to assist in the planning and design,\u201d Cr Tatchell said.<br \/>\nLike previous works, the upgrade will include wider asphalt footpaths; the replacement of hard surfaces and nature strips with sawn bluestone paving; asphalt treatments; drainage improvements; improvement to pedestrian safety, including accessibility for road crossing points and disabled parking bays; and the installation of electrical conduits and pits to facilitate possible future conversion of overhead power to underground.<br \/>\nAlthough the works will see three trees be removed from the site, 15 trees will replace these.<br \/>\nMoorabool Shire Council says the removals \u201chave been in consultation with Council\u2019s landscape consultants, and the community reference group initially engaged during the planning phase and council officers.\u201d<br \/>\nThe project is expected to cost $647,000 and construction will be undertaken by Evergreen Civil Pty Ltd.<br \/>\nThe streetscape works is expected to take six months to complete, in a staged process to minimise disruption in the area.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2358\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2358\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/website-people-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2358\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2358\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Checking the plans &#8211; (L-R) &#8211; Project Director Jason Green, Mayor Paul Tatchell and Project Manager (Evergreen Civil) Dave Huxtable.<br \/>Photo \u2013 Helen Tatchell<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Meg Kennedy The makeover of Ballan\u2019s town centre is now underway, with new bench seats and car spaces the biggest additions to Inglis St in the new year.
