{"id":18478,"date":"2019-04-01T14:36:39","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T03:36:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=2642"},"modified":"2024-02-02T18:45:56","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T07:45:56","slug":"a-gallery-for-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/a-gallery-for-art\/","title":{"rendered":"A gallery for art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Helen Tatchell<\/p>\n<p>There was a simple solution to what to do with an obsolete wood working room at the Ballan Community House, make it in to an art studio.<br \/>\nAfter an intense revamp, with financial help from the Ballan &amp; District Community Bank and a Moorabool Shire Council community arts grant, the Lesley Batchelor Gallery has been unveiled.<br \/>\nCommunity House Manager Lyn Plummer said the future was to expand and strengthen the concept.<br \/>\n\u201cThis idea was also to honour Lesley for the hard work and teaching she did over many years.<br \/>\n\u201cThe gallery will now be a platform for residents of the shire to hire for smaller style exhibitions,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe financial support has been invaluable and without that we would struggle.\u201d<br \/>\nAt the launch and opening of the gallery Moorabool Mayor Cr Paul Tatchell said the money is the easy thing.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is about connecting people. The key to connectivity is belonging to something,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cYou don\u2019t have to buy an easel to do art, you can appreciate art by just looking at it.\u201d<br \/>\nMs Batchelor\u2019s daughter Sue Giddins said she was humbled and greatly honoured by the naming of the gallery in memory of her mother.<br \/>\n\u201cMum loved this place and all those who dwell in it.
