{"id":18556,"date":"2019-09-09T14:02:22","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T04:02:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=3438"},"modified":"2024-02-02T20:50:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T09:50:18","slug":"paperwork-tasks-made-easier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/paperwork-tasks-made-easier\/","title":{"rendered":"Paperwork tasks made easier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Meg Kennedy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Filling out forms and navigating websites are tasks many of us take for granted, but a service in Moorabool will assist those who need help with documents and internet literacy. <\/p>\n<p>A new program at the Lerderderg Library in Bacchus Marsh is dedicated to help complete the every-day tasks of filling in forms, reading documents, writing important letters and more, through the new \u2018Paperwork Lounge\u2019 service.<\/p>\n<p>Moorabool Shire Mayor Cr Paul Tatchell officially launched the Paperwork Lounge at the Library last Thursday, 5 September, along with representatives from the State Library of Victoria, Lerderderg Library, The Laurels Community College, and volunteers for the service.<\/p>\n<p>The Lerderderg Library was one of just nine successful applicants to receive funding from the State Library of Victoria to help get the project off the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Tatchell said at the launch the service was \u201cfantastic\u201d as \u201cyou cannot move throughout this world, or in any government departments, without using [technology] equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe frustration for those people when they\u2019re not able to do anything, because they don\u2019t know how to do it; to be able come to the library and have people say, \u2018I\u2019ll give you a hand, we\u2019ll work together\u2019\u2026is fantastic\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLibraries are the mould; today they\u2019re learning centres, they\u2019re places that people go, and they\u2019re places where people come to help and keep communities together \u2013 especially in regional areas, where we are somewhat isolated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council Customer Service officer Wesley Hutchesson said the service allows community members to receive the assistance library staff don\u2019t have the time to help with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a constant flow of people coming to our campus seeking assistance with filling out forms and understanding documents\u2026its hard for us to deliver, so we don\u2019t have the opportunities to spend [time] sitting down with somebody on an individual basis to work through the forms or letters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re driven to provide quality customer service, quality and experiences not only through the library in general, but through the Paperwork Lounge as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The service will be provided by trained volunteers from diverse backgrounds, from former teachers, workers in administrative roles, customer service and ex-military. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lifeline for this whole project is our volunteers,\u201d said Mr Hutchesson.<\/p>\n<p>The Paperwork Lounge is currently operating at the Lerderderg Library with a service also at Ballan Community House on Wednesday mornings between 10am-12pm.  <\/p>\n<p>The service is looking to expand to Darley Neighbourhood House in the future.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact Lerderderg Library on 5366 7100.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Meg Kennedy Filling out forms and navigating websites are tasks many of us take for granted, but a service in Moorabool will assist those who need help with documents and internet literacy.
