Once overgrown with weeds, bracken and long grass, the final resting place for many has a new lease of life.<\/p>\n

Volunteers banded together with whipper snippers, gloves, and a fair bit of elbow grease to make the Gordon New Cemetery tidier, but important machinery was missing, lawn mowers.<\/p>\n

The cemetery committee applied for a community investment grant with the local bank and was thrilled with the announcement they received the funding to purchase two new mowers, equipment that now makes the volunteers work easier.<\/p>\n

Gordon local Neil Eastwood is a volunteer at the Cemetery and said the funding from the Ballan & District Community Bank Branch, allowed the committee to buy the equipment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investment made my day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe needed some new equipment, so we applied to the Bank\u2026we\u2019ve been lucky enough to secure two new mowers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes a huge difference in keeping this fairly large area under control, and making it pleasant for people to visit relatives who are buried here. It\u2019s a big job, but with this sort of equipment you can bowl it over fairly quickly, and it still looks fairly professional.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Eastwood said it would have been impossible for community groups to raise the amount of money the Community Bank has given them.<\/p>\n
