	{"id":19087,"date":"2022-01-17T12:30:12","date_gmt":"2022-01-17T01:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=8114"},"modified":"2024-02-04T04:09:32","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T17:09:32","slug":"memorial-for-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/memorial-for-all\/","title":{"rendered":"Memorial for all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<\/p>\n<p>Fundraising continues for a striking new monument to honour Bacchus Marsh\u2019s veterans, including a High Tea to be held this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Resting Poppy Memorial Project was established nearly three years ago, to find a way to fittingly honour Bacchus Marsh\u2019s 462 WWI soldiers, many of whom are not memorialised in the Avenue of Honour.<\/p>\n<p>When fully funded, a \u201cvibrant, monolithic, abstract bronze and plaque installation\u201d will be built, with name plaques of those 462 diggers who served within the local community.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of the Bacchus Marsh RSL, Carl Wright, told the Moorabool News that the Resting Poppy would be a fantastic way to recognise the sacrifices made by the area\u2019s veterans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorld War I is but one story we have to tell. Veterans of subsequent wars are feeling, more keenly since the pandemic began, that they need recognition. For this reason, the project has expanded to include veterans of subsequent wars,\u201d Mr Wright said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are passionate about remembering and ensuring current and future populations remember those that served, not only in World War I but in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, to name but a few.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing, the Bacchus Marsh RSL has raised $61,000 for the Resting Poppy Memorial Project, and has also applied for a $300,000 grant from Creative Arts Victoria, with a decision due in late February.<\/p>\n<p>Avenue of Honour postcards are on sale in 18 businesses around town, with proceeds going towards the project.<\/p>\n<p>A High Tea will be held at the Bacchus Marsh RSL on Sunday 30 January from 2 pm \u2013 4 pm.<\/p>\n<p>To read the full story &#8211; Simply click on the following link<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/issuu.com\/themooraboolnews\/docs\/mn_2022-01-18\/1\">https:\/\/issuu.com\/themooraboolnews\/docs\/mn_2022-01-18\/1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>in the 18 January 2022 edition<br \/>\nOR<br \/>\npick up a paper around your town.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis Fundraising continues for a striking new monument to honour Bacchus Marsh\u2019s veterans, including a High Tea to be held this month.
