{"id":19212,"date":"2017-03-24T03:28:37","date_gmt":"2017-03-24T03:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=232"},"modified":"2024-01-31T15:34:12","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T04:34:12","slug":"be-a-part-of-the-trend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/be-a-part-of-the-trend\/","title":{"rendered":"Be a part of the trend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>By Jessica Howard\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bacchus Marsh Cobras are encouraging more women to join the female football revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Bacchus Marsh Football Netball Club women\u2019s coordinator, Rod Bertram said the club was searching for fresh players across all age groups, with a come-and-try session to be held ahead of the 2017-season. \u201cWe hope to introduce some girls to footy and in doing so, we will hopefully attract them to the club and see our teams grow in numbers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA few girls, who use to play for Bacchus Marsh and are now in the Victorian Football League, have offered to come down and help create a bit of excitement too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKrista Woodroofe, Emily Crawford and Abbey Bertram will be there going through training drills and teaching the girls some new skills\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The come-and-try session will be held on Wednesday April 5 and will be open to<br \/>\nsenior women, under-13 and youth girls.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bertram said he hoped to see more women become involved in football, especially after the inaugural AFL women\u2019s league (AFWL), which commenced in February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully [the AFWL] will attract more local women to the game. At the moment we have about 22 senior players, with similar numbers in the youth and under-13 girls, but we would like to see more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us, it\u2019s about getting the girls onto the footy field, while also getting fit, having a good time and enjoying the social side of it, too.
