{"id":19214,"date":"2017-09-19T00:38:15","date_gmt":"2017-09-19T00:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=1269"},"modified":"2024-02-02T00:11:17","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T13:11:17","slug":"devils-2015-cobras-2016-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/devils-2015-cobras-2016-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Devils 2015; Cobras 2016; ? 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jessica Howard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The biggest grand final day rivalry in the Ballarat Football League\u2019s history is about to be unleashed. <\/p>\n<p>Cross-town rivals Darley and Bacchus Marsh will face down in both the reserve and senior football grand finals this weekend. <\/p>\n<p>A first in BFL history, the two clubs will go head to head at Mars Stadium in Ballarat, with both senior teams chasing their second premiership flag.<br \/>\nThe Devils broke a 20-year drought to claim its maiden senior premiership in 2015. They were first to progress through to this year\u2019s grand final after an impressive 98-point win over Bacchus Marsh in the second semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>However, the reigning premiers set up the cross-town rivalry following a 36-point win over Lake Wendouree on Saturday.<br \/>\nDarley Football Club President, Ray Newton said the results were unprecedented.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Marsh-Darley grand final has never happened before and premierships are few and far between, let alone potentially taking out two premierships with both the [seniors] and the reserves,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c[This] is a huge benefit to the town as we are a real football town, you\u2019ve just got to look at the crowds to know that\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Bacchus Marsh Football Club President, Adam Sutherland said it was fantastic to see both clubs getting recognition throughout the league. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you make it this far, you\u2019re obviously excited to be up against anyone, but being a Bacchus Marsh-Darley grand final, it obviously has a bit more edge,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a town of 20-odd thousand and we\u2019ve got players going up against the big boys in Ballarat and Melton, so it\u2019s a credit to both clubs to have two teams in two grand finals. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBacchus Marsh [has had] seven teams make a grand final this year across junior, senior and women\u2019s football. You\u2019d be hard pressed to find any other club out there with numbers like that\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The BFL grand final will kick off between the Bacchus Marsh and Darley reserves this Saturday at 11:20am, followed by the seniors at 2:30pm.<br \/>\nNewton said it would mean \u201ceverything\u201d to see the club take home a second premiership flag. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us to be in two grand finals in three years \u2013 one being a premiership win \u2013 is just so good for the club.
