{"id":2071,"date":"2018-07-09T02:00:22","date_gmt":"2018-07-09T02:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=2071"},"modified":"2024-02-02T17:49:24","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T06:49:24","slug":"exclusive-3500-people-to-go-cold-as-ballan-to-shiver-with-no-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/exclusive-3500-people-to-go-cold-as-ballan-to-shiver-with-no-power\/","title":{"rendered":"EXCLUSIVE &#8211; 3500+ people to go cold as Ballan to shiver with no power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>By Carol Saffer<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe understand<br \/>\noutages are<br \/>\ninconvenient<br \/>\nand we thank<br \/>\ncustomers for<br \/>\ntheir understanding..\u201d<br \/>\n&#8211; Powercor<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Put the bed-socks on and stay in bed with an extra blanket as Powercor plans to flick off the power for a whopping seven hours, in the middle of winter.<br \/>\nA total power outage impacting the entire Ballan town centre and surrounding areas between 8.00am to 3.00pm is scheduled for Sunday 15 July.<br \/>\nBallan residents and some local businesses received an \u2018interruption to your electricity supply\u2019 advice notice from Powercor by mail.<br \/>\nLocated on Inglis Street, Zest Caf\u00e9 owner Lisa Vella received Powercor\u2019s notification in the mail on Tuesday 5 July, a few hours before she spoke with The Moorabool News.<br \/>\nAs Sunday is one of her best trading days Ms Vella said she is very, very angry.<br \/>\n\u201cI will lose a whole day\u2019s trade while the five staff normally rostered on will lose their days wages as I have to close the business.\u201d<br \/>\nMs Vella said she particularly finds it frustrating that the Powercor letter mentions the possibility that the outage times are not exact, and there is a possibility that the works may be cancelled.<br \/>\nOn June 27 Powercor informed a \u2018major key business\u2019 of their needs to undertake powerline works in Ballan to install REFCL Bushfire prevention equipment. These works are part of the recommendations to come out of the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission. The letter sent to residents failed to advise of the same needs.<br \/>\nThe Moorabool News further discovered Powercor advised the same \u2018major key business\u2019 on July 5 of the \u2018assignment of more crews\u2019 to the works in Ballan, \u201cso we can reduce the outage down to 4 hours from 8am-12pm.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cFollowing feedback, we have reduced the outage time by three hours in some areas,\u201d a Powercor spokeswoman told The Moorabool News on Friday 6 July.<br \/>\nAccording to Powercor, the outage on Sunday 15 July from 8am to 12 noon will affect 1150 customers while 400 customers will continue without power until 3pm.<br \/>\nWhen The Moorabool News asked how they will communicate the sudden changes to Ballan residents and businesses the spokeswoman responded, \u201cwe will contact customers about the change in times over the coming days.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWe understand outages are inconvenient and we thank customers for their understanding while our crews work to improve the safety of the network,\u201d the spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of going to print the forecast weather temperature for Ballan on Sunday 15 July is an overnight low of 1 degrees with the mercury slowly climbing to a top temperature of just 11 degrees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Carol Saffer \u201cWe understand outages are inconvenient and we thank customers for their understanding..\u201d &#8211; Powercor Put the bed-socks on and stay in bed with an extra blanket as Powercor plans to flick off the power for a whopping seven hours, in the middle of winter.
