There is actually something quite important happening on the AFL Grand Final day, and it isn\u2019t the obvious.
\nBrett Williams from Bacchus Marsh has started (Thursday 20 September) walking from Wodonga, raising money for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, and is scheduled to arrive at Maddingley Park on Saturday 29 September.
\nThe amount raised so far is over $12,500 and was boosted with a donation from the local Lions Club of Bacchus Marsh.
\n\u201cBrett’s father is a member of Strathmerton Lions Club and Brett approached
\nus seeking support,\u201d said President Bacchus Marsh Lion Ralph Fletcher.
\n\u201cAs per his schedule we have been able to get support from local Lions Clubs offering accommodation for Brett and his team on route.
\n\u201cOur club donated $500 and we look forward to his arrival this week,\u201d Mr Fletcher said.
\nMr Williams said a close relative had just gone through brain cancer with five months of chemotherapy and is now in remission and doing well.
\n\u201cA friend told me about Faith Brewer, a young lady diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. She will motivate me to put one foot in front of the other on this journey,\u201d he said.
\nMr Wiliams has three good pair of walking shoes packed and is expected to walk an average of 50km per day.
\n\u201cI\u2019ve trained hard for this and every second weekend I would walk 35km each day and started my training in late February.
\n\u201cI cannot begin to express how overwhelmed I am with the community support. Too many people to thank including the Lions clubs for the accommodation; All Press printing for the flyers and BM U-hire for the donation of a Kia Carnival vehicle for the 10-days.\u201d
\nOn Grand Final Day Mr Williams will enter Bacchus Marsh through the Avenue of Honour, Main Street into Grant Street and make his way down to Maddingley
\nPark for an approximate arrival time of 12.30pm.
