Women in Moorabool are being encouraged to get active as part of VicHealth\u2019s \u2018This Girl Can Week\u2019, which kicked off yesterday (Monday).
\nThis Girl Can Week (18-24 March 2019) aims to encourage more women to give physical activity a go or return to exercise after a break.
\nThe campaign is about empowering women to feel comfortable in their bodies and in public spaces – regardless of their ability, how they look or how sweaty they get.
\nA VicHealth grant is helping Moorabool Shire Council promote the \u2018This Girl Can \u2013 Victoria\u2019 campaign throughout this month.
\nCouncil is calling on local women to get involved with the highly successful campaign, which launched in March last year and inspired 1 in 7 Victorian women to get moving in 2018.
\nMoorabool Mayor Cr Paul Tatchell said This Girl Can \u2013 Victoria has had real success in building a supportive community of women who encourage each other to get out there and get active.
\n\u201cOur Council is proud to work with VicHealth during This Girl Can Week to encourage local women and girls to, smash the stereotypes holding them back from getting active, and have a go,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThere\u2019ll be a range of come and try activities that will help women take that first and often daunting step to being active.\u201d
\nVicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said This Girl Can Week was about empowering everyday women to get active in their local community without feeling judged.
\n\u201cWe want all women \u2013 no matter how sweaty they get, how red their face is\u2026to feel comfortable about getting out there and giving physical activity a go,\u201d said Ms Rechter.
\n\u201cThat\u2019s what This Girl Can is all about,\u201d Ms Rechter said.
\nActivities promoted as part of This Girl Can will be inclusive, non-judgemental and accessible for women of different ages, body shapes and abilities.
\nThis Girl Can Week will be held across Victoria from 18-24 March 2019.
