AS the saying goes: one person\u2019s trash is another\u2019s treasure, and a with a whole town garage sale set for next month at Blackwood, there\u2019s sure to be some gems unearthed, all while raising money for the local hall.<\/p>\n
The event is set for Saturday 9 March, with proceeds from registrations and sales of maps of the participating houses going to St Martin\u2019s Chapel.<\/p>\n
The garage sale\u2019s organiser is Jinny Coyle and she said the event was the fourth she\u2019s run, and it\u2019s been a hit in the past.<\/p>\n
\u201cI try to fundraise for a body in Blackwood every year,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople love the garage sale, it\u2019s a great way for locals to catch up, and people come from all over the place for it. It\u2019s just loads of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnybody who\u2019s booked a place and paid for it goes onto our map, and at 7.45am people can come to the triangle in Blackwood opposite the pub, buy a map, and go all over Blackwood and find lots of treasures.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I love about whole town garage sales is people don\u2019t have to lug their stuff all over the place and set up tables somewhere else in town, they just put the items they\u2019re selling in their garage or out the front of their house.\u201d<\/p>\n
Registering a property as part of the event is $22, and maps of all participating houses will cost $5 on the day.<\/p>\n
Those funds will go towards marketing and promotional material for St Martin\u2019s Chapel, which regularly holds concerts, community meetings, and other events.<\/p>\n
The Blackwood whole town garage sale has previously raised funds for the local Community Emergency Response Team, who cover Blackwood, Dales Creek, and Trentham.<\/p>\n
So far 12 houses have booked in to take part on the day, with Ms Coyle expecting that number to double before the booking deadline on Wednesday 6 March.<\/p>\n
