VOLUNTEERS have rolled up their sleeves to give a historical society\u2019s home a new look, in preparation for Easter events.<\/p>\n
On Saturday 24 February, eight volunteers at the Blackwood and District Historical Society gathered for one of the group\u2019s routine working bees.<\/p>\n
Historical Society member Paul Kukiel said a lot of work had gone into making the building look fantastic for the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe team gave the building a freshen up which included re-nailing some of the loose weather boards and a fresh coat of black paint,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s quite a lot of effort with the limited hours we have to complete the work that\u2019s required to keep the building looking nice and welcoming for all our visitors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seen a steady increase in visitors over the past 12 months post the pandemic and are thrilled to be able to collect, preserve and share the historical knowledge of the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Historical Society will be open on Easter Saturday on 30 March, and will also be holding a fundraising bingo event at the Blackwood Town Hall from 6.30pm on Easter Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe enjoy sharing history, and are really proud of the building\u2019s new fresh look,\u201d Mr Kukiel said.<\/p>\n
The Blackwood and District Historical Society is located on the corner of Martin Street and Warner Street, Blackwood.<\/p>\n
