THIS year’s Victorian Landcare grants are open for applications by volunteer groups that work to restore the environment and support biodiversity.<\/p>\n
Minister for environment Steve Dimopoulos announced late last month that there will be $3.55 million worth of grants available.<\/p>\n
The grants are open to any volunteer groups and networks including Landcare groups, friends groups, conservation management networks, committees of management, Coastcare groups and Aboriginal groups.<\/p>\n
Grants of up to $20,000 will be available for on-ground works and community education projects which improve the natural environment.<\/p>\n
Grants of $500 will also be on offer to cover organisations’ administrative and operational expenses.<\/p>\n
“Now is the time to put those projects forward that your landcare and environmental volunteering group are ready to get started on, so jump online, read the Victorian landcare grants guidelines and start an application,” Corangamite Catchment Management Authority regional landcare coordinator Kylie McLaren said.<\/p>\n
“Volunteers are working hard all year round to ensure<\/p>\n
everyone can enjoy a healthy environment.<\/p>\n
“This funding boost will<\/p>\n
make a world of difference for the on-ground outcomes, education and connection that can be achieved.”<\/p>\n
Last year, 240 projects were funded by the program including building fencing to protect eastern barred bandicoot and eastern quoll habitat at Tiverton and restoring rainforest areas in the Yarra Ranges.<\/p>\n
Applications close on April 30 and can be made on the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
