Raising money for the Cancer Council, Bacchus Marsh Rotarians Donna Martin and Kathy Cairns hosted a local Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea session on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Mother Nature turned on some fantastic weather for around 50 guests who attended the garden morning tea, with proceeds from the $20 tickets going towards those impacted by cancer.<\/p>\n
Ms Martin, formerly President of the Rotary Club of Bacchus Marsh, said cancer had touched the lives of so many people, and the morning tea was just one way to support the Cancer Council’s incredible work.<\/p>\n
“On this scale, it’s my first time running a morning tea like this. I used to do it at a workplace, and I just felt it was a great opportunity to share it with the community, to raise funds for a fabulous cause,” Ms Martin said.<\/p>\n
“Most people have been touched by somebody who’s had cancer, and it’s a wonderful reason for a nice morning tea.<\/p>\n
“My mother passed away from cancer, so it’s always in the back of my mind. This was a perfect opportunity to raise more funds and help fund crucial research.<\/p>\n
“I’d love to raise $1,000 today. That’s our aim.”<\/p>\n
Many well-known faces from around Moorabool attended for a cuppa and a chat, including Moorabool Shire Mayor Cr Ally Munari.<\/p>\n
Cr Munari said it was fantastic to be part of the day.<\/p>\n
“I’m really grateful that I’ve been invited today, to hear what Rotary are doing and to get behind them, and also to hear from local residents on what they need in the Shire,” she said.<\/p>\n
“To come to someone’s home and have some one-on-one chats with people, I really cherish that.<\/p>\n
“It’s really touched me to be here today, and I must say, the morning tea and the food are some of the best I’ve ever had!”<\/p>\n
