A LOCAL football netball club has renamed its clubrooms, in honour of a club stalwart.<\/p>\n
The Bacchus Marsh Football Netball Club recently renamed its rooms to the \u2018Graham Dawson Clubrooms\u2019, after the premiership player and former coach and President of the same name.<\/p>\n
Mr Dawson, who is in his 90s, played for the Maddingley Spiders back when he was a teenager.<\/p>\n
The club would merge with the Bacchus Marsh Tigers to form Maddingley-Bacchus Marsh Football Club in 1979, which was renamed the Bacchus Marsh Football Club in 1983.<\/p>\n
Cobras President Ian McClure said Mr Dawson was a \u201cpatriarch\u201d of the club, and had been a father figure to countless young footballers since his involvement began.<\/p>\n
\u201cGraham\u2019s one of the people who\u2019s always there, he\u2019s been a premiership player, a coach, and a President for two separate terms, once many years ago and another time when the club needed him,\u201d Mr McClure said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been a Life Member, and we\u2019ve elevated him to the Hall of Fame recently, and in doing so we\u2019ve recognised him by renaming the clubrooms.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s very unassuming, a lot of the things he does, nobody would ever see. He epitomises what our footy club is about, really.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople like Graham Dawson are the lifeblood of local footy clubs, and without him we wouldn\u2019t be where we are today.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new name of the clubrooms was unveiled at the Cobras\u2019 first home game for the season, against Ballarat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
