{"id":29529,"date":"2024-05-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=29529"},"modified":"2024-05-27T09:22:28","modified_gmt":"2024-05-26T23:22:28","slug":"putting-a-cap-on-street-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/living\/putting-a-cap-on-street-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Putting a cap on street art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ARTISTS are planning a rather unique display in Ballan, and they&#8217;re asking for donations that most of us would have just thrown in the recycling bin.<\/p>\n<p>The Wombat Regional Arts Network is currently collecting plastic bottle caps for a group art project, with a donation bin located outside the gallery at the Ballan Arts Space.<\/p>\n<p>The bottle tops will be used for a mural for the community to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>WRAN&#8217;s Miranda Howard said the concept was inspired by another mural overseas that a member had seen on social media.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The mural would not only draw attention to the importance of recycling, but also because they are bright, colourful and will last a while outside as a mural,&#8221; Howard said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have no idea how many we want to collect as a figure, but we&#8217;ll continue to collect over the winter, and hopefully then we will have enough in the spring to start creating with them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have no plans for the location, other than in Ballan somewhere. The location will be determined by the amount of bottle caps collected, and the size of mural we can do.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If any Ballan businesses or groups have an ideal location, they are welcome to contact us through our website.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What exactly the bottle caps will depict is also undecided at the moment, and will depend on what size and colours of bottle cap are available.<\/p>\n<p>The project is being run by volunteers, some of whom have been involved in other projects that decorated the Ballan streetscape, such as WinterKnits and Birds in Ballan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We ask for everyone to collect their plastic bottle caps, such as those on milk and soft drink bottles,&#8221; Howard said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t need the ring and would appreciate if they are washed before being dropped off in the black bin that is in the driveway of the Ballan Arts Space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the mural, and other projects the Wombat Regional Arts Network have worked on, <a href=\"http:\/\/visit wombatarts.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visit wombatarts.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ARTISTS are planning a rather unique display in Ballan, and they&#8217;re asking for donations that most of us would have just thrown in the recycling bin.
