{"id":296,"date":"2017-01-31T03:57:03","date_gmt":"2017-01-31T03:57:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=296"},"modified":"2024-02-02T03:32:11","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T16:32:11","slug":"young-protectors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/young-protectors\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Protectors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>By Kate Taylor<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Five young Moorabool residents have had their bravery recognised with the local Young Citizens of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>The recipients are Natasha Ford, Tristan Mair, Brady Dunne, Anthony Young and Matthew Wetherall.<\/p>\n<p>Each young person trained as an Elaine Junior CFA Member in District 15, and was nominated as a group because of their commitment to protecting their community during the Scotsburn fires in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>They had only just completed their recruitment training a couple of months prior to the fire \u2013 but the group stayed calm and focused on what had to be done, while working as little as 100m from the main blaze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey displayed exceptional team work, communication and courage and saved a number of properties as a result,\u201d read the group\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n<p>The December 19 fire occurred before last year\u2019s Australia Day Awards, but after nominations had been closed.<\/p>\n<p>Russell Ford not only trained the group, but is also the father of one of the recipients \u2013Natasha Ford.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really fantastic for the kids to get this, they really did a lot of hard work when the fire was on,\u201d said Mr Ford, who is the Buninyong Group Comms Officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019d all just turned 16 &#8211; normally when they join the brigade, they gradually work their way into it, but they got thrown in the deep end because of the fire at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re really rapt to be recognised.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kate Taylor Five young Moorabool residents have had their bravery recognised with the local Young Citizens of the Year Award.
