{"id":29829,"date":"2024-06-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-06T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=29829"},"modified":"2024-06-05T15:21:53","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T05:21:53","slug":"womens-cricket-comes-to-ballan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/womens-cricket-comes-to-ballan\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s cricket comes to Ballan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLAN Cricket Club is set to field an inaugural women&#8217;s team later this year.<\/p>\n<p>State Member for Eureka, Michaela Settle, visited the Ballan Recreation Reserve on Friday 31 May to announce the club had been successful in its bid for a Change Our Game Community Activation Grant to make it happen, receiving $4500.<\/p>\n<p>Committee member and inaugural coach of Ballan&#8217;s women&#8217;s side, Summer Dehnert, said momentum had been building for the side to compete.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I played my junior cricket here 20 years ago, and back then there were no women&#8217;s teams basically in the area. There was one in Ballarat that played in Melbourne but that was about it,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now the number of teams in Ballarat is great to see, and to be able to have Ballan come in with a women&#8217;s side is awesome.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s such a great stepping stone, we&#8217;ve got so many junior girls who are going to have the opportunity to come up and play for this senior women&#8217;s team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It shows that there&#8217;s a place for women in our club, and in our sport as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/06\/IMG_7294_75126.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Team funded: Member for Eureka Michaela Settle (second from left) gave Ballan Cricket Club president David Leach, inaugural women&#8217;s coach Summer Dehnert, and treasurer Saveria Singh the good news last week. Once it gets into the mainstream, we&#8217;re hopeful we&#8217;ll get a few more ladies on-board to play,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re eager to have a club that includes everyone \u2013 juniors, seniors, male and female.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The future at the club is very exciting. Affiliation fees with the BCA are our biggest cost after equipment, we spend $8500 on affiliation fees et cetera,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That money has to come from somewhere, and you can&#8217;t make it from chook raffles.
