IN WHAT is a common theme for many Brumbies sides, the Under 14 E Girls haven’t fielded a full-strength side all season.<\/p>\n
That changed in round six as the team welcomed Matilda Hogan and Ari Jeandet back into the team as well as Millie O’Hanlon, playing her first game of the season with the team.<\/p>\n
The Brumbies flew out of the blocks, their defence causing all sorts of issues for Sovereign, with quick passing at the other end of the floor opening up tasty scoring opportunities. Maggie Rudolph got on the board first with a short jumper before Grace Monterosso scored on a layup. A Matilda Hogan put back was sandwiched between a pair of Victoria Taylor jump shots as the Brumbies galloped to an early 10-2 lead.<\/p>\n
Ballan didn’t let up. Taylor and Hogan were proving a handful near the bucket whilst the outside speed of Rudolph, Monterosso and Esther Seketa saw Knights heads spinning.<\/p>\n
But for the efforts of Layla Quinney and Scarlett Baradine for Sovereign, this may have been a blowout by half time. Instead, a late Seketa basket saw Ballan lead 24-14 at the break.<\/p>\n
Jeandet opened the second half white hit, scoring the first three baskets of the period. Not to be outdone, Monterosso and then Taylor each scored on consecutive possessions as the Brumbies put some serious distance between them and their opposition.<\/p>\n
With the lead ballooning, the Brumbies were starting to feel themselves. Hogan, not known for her ball handling, took on a pair of defenders under pressure in the back court, beating them down the floor and drawing a foul.<\/p>\n
Monterosso dribbled behind her back, O’Hanlon pulling a crossover to leave her defender in the dust. Hogan had the honour of the final basket of the fixture as the Brumbies girls ran out comfortable 40-18 winners.<\/p>\n
