{"id":30241,"date":"2024-06-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-22T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=30241"},"modified":"2024-06-19T17:48:39","modified_gmt":"2024-06-19T07:48:39","slug":"cuppa-for-a-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/cuppa-for-a-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuppa for a cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bacchus Marsh Day Branch of the Country Women&#8217;s Association raised thousands of dollars for the Cancer Council on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Branch members ran a Biggest Afternoon Tea on Saturday 15 June, in honour of Mel Boonzaayer, who passed away after a two-and-a-half-year battle with bowel cancer.<\/p>\n<p>About 50 people passed through the doors at the branch&#8217;s rooms at the Darley Civic and Community Hub, with entry $20 per person.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees were of course treated to the traditional CWA scones and tea, as well as pies, cakes, sandwiches, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Bacchus Marsh Day Branch president June Webb thanked all those who attended and made donations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was fantastic. We raised so much money for cancer,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We had two paintings donated for auction; they raised $270.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was so much food, and people bought food that was left. Everybody had a wonderful time. It was a really good day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/06\/IMG_7710_09801.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bacchus Marsh CWA Day Branch president, June Webb, has thanked the afternoon tea&#8217;s attendees for contributing to the cause.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mel Boonzaayer&#8217;s sister came and spoke to us. She was supposed to be doing a Biggest Morning Tea for Mel when she had cancer. Sadly, Mel passed away, and her sister found it was too hard.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She asked us if we could hold the event.
