DEMENTIA Australia staff members will be in Bacchus Marsh later this month providing information on how to support someone living with dementia.<\/p>\n
The session at Lederberg Library will cover topics including types of dementia, signs and symptoms, the experience of living with dementia, available services, and where to access support.<\/p>\n
It is estimated that 570 people are living with dementia in the Moorabool Shire this year.<\/p>\n
“Understanding Dementia provides an introduction to dementia including the different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead, and how to support someone living with dementia,” said Dementia Australia client services state manager, Jacinta Allen.<\/p>\n
“There are a significant number of types of dementia and an example of that is Alzheimer’s which is the most common one.”<\/p>\n
The session is designed for people living with dementia, family carers, family members, and people who know someone with dementia.<\/p>\n
It is not suitable for volunteers, professional carers or people employed in the health or aged care industries.<\/p>\n
Ms Allen said she hopes the session helps attendees feel less alone with what they are experiencing.<\/p>\n
“It’s also about the opportunity to develop networks in the community,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s really important for people to understand that with dementia they are not alone, there are supports around.”<\/p>\n
