{"id":30873,"date":"2024-08-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-08T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=30873"},"modified":"2024-08-09T16:13:43","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T06:13:43","slug":"flackpto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/flackpto\/","title":{"rendered":"Family building reborn as arts space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOLLOWING its resurrection last year as a second-storey studio space, Ballan&#8217;s former post and telegraph office has a new lease on life as a visual arts gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Kept in the Flack family for six generations since its construction in 1864, the building has been reimagined as multi-purpose hub FlackPTO with the launch of its exhibition space on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>FlackPTO owner Danielle Briglia said the site&#8217;s overhaul has been three years in the making.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a photographer and have been practicing for about eight years and I&#8217;m part of a photography group where I had some friends up here for a shoot in 2021,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/08\/FlackGallery-12_42192.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Legacy: FlackPTO owners Philip Flack and Danielle Briglia have kept the building in the family name for more than 160 years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;It pretty much came from that. A lot of them said why are we not using this as a studio space?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The space has been redeveloped as a studio and gallery space since then, with the finishing touches recently applied for the latter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve mostly done cosmetic stuff,&#8221; Briglia said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve left all the walls as original because you can see all the markings from the old post and telegraph office.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve lightened the door trims, got the floors sanded and rewaxed, there&#8217;s been a lot of painting and we&#8217;ve fixed up the stairs for the studio space.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/08\/FlackGallery-7_87887.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"846\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rocco Zampaglione with some of his images.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got two rooms downstairs and the kitchen included for the gallery, and two rooms upstairs for the studio which has been running for about a year while we&#8217;ve worked on the gallery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The building was previously up for sale in 2019 before Briglia, and her father Philip Flack, decided to keep the site in the family.<\/p>\n<p>She estimated the building had been dormant since the early 1980s prior to its current operations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/08\/FlackGallery-8_87902.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photographer Ken Toomey on opening weekend.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Alongside Briglia, featured artists in the inaugural rotation include Leanne Robson, Damien Lewis, Rocco Zampaglione, Ken Toomey, Christine Stevens, Ross Kimber, Chris King, and Jason Vassallo.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery can hold 25 hangings, and will operate on a combined rotation with artists able to exhibit at a minimum of two pieces for two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to get a lot of young people exhibiting where it might be their first time,&#8221; Briglia said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/08\/FlackGallery-11_88034.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"867\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Legacy: FlackPTO owners Philip Flack and Danielle Briglia have kept the building in the family name for more than 160 years.
