{"id":30982,"date":"2024-08-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=30982"},"modified":"2024-08-15T12:51:34","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T02:51:34","slug":"how-to-handle-serrated-tussock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/how-to-handle-serrated-tussock\/","title":{"rendered":"How to handle serrated tussock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A SEMINAR on how best to deal with serrated tussock is set to be delivered later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The session will be led by members of the Moorabool Catchment Landcare Group in collaboration with the Victorian Serrated Tussock Working Party.<\/p>\n<p>The MCLG coordinator Jackson Cass said the event will teach people best practice approaches and give them the tools to combat the noxious weed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a great opportunity for the community work together and make substantial contribution towards minimising the impact of tussock on our farming and the environment,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Participants will also receive a laminated A2 printout of their property to assist in mapping weeds and whole property management.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian Serrated Tussock Working Party estimated the density of serrated tussock is increasing in the region, with the mature plants capable of producing up to 100,000 seeds per year.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar will feature guest speakers as well as a practical demonstration on how to spray and manage serrated tussock as well as learn about the impacts the plant has on the environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The serrated tussock message is about integrated weed management and productive land management,&#8221; Victorian Serrated Tussock Working Party extension officer Ivan Carter said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many landholders in these regions may not know how to identify and manage serrated tussock and this seminar aims to increase awareness and provide technical advice to landholders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Prevention and early detection of new infestations and replacement of existing infestations with desired species is critical in managing this invasive plant.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The seminar will run from 10am to 2pm at Mount Wallace Hall on Saturday 24 August.
