In other cases, they have altered the height or location of the ORG to correspond with a new deck or renovation.<br \/>\n\u201cIn the unfortunate event of a blockage in the sewer pipes, this can lead to disastrous and costly consequences,\u201d Mr Barnett said.<br \/>\nWhilst the sewer mains are managed and maintained by water corporations, property owners are responsible for ensuring their home is fitted with a properly designed and functioning ORG.<br \/>\nThe ORG is an external plumbing system designed to redirect sewage away from inside the property in the event of a sewer pipe blockage.<br \/>\nMr Barnett said in the case of a sewer blockage the ORG needs to be able to release pressure and the grate lid should \u2018pop-off\u2019 easily.<br \/>\n\u201cTo do so, the ORG should be uncovered and free of any weeds, roots, or debris\u201d, he said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe ORG should also be lower than any other waste outlet in your home and needs to be raised-up from the surrounding ground area to prevent stormwater from flowing into it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most properties constructed after 1976 have an ORG located near an external wall of the laundry, kitchen, or bathroom.<br \/>\nBuildings connected to the sewer system prior to 1976 may not have an ORG, unless additional work has been undertaken.<\/strong><em><figure id=\"attachment_3130\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3130\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/website-1-3-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3130\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">a compliant ORG<br \/>Photo &#8211; WW<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>For more advice on how to maintain and check your ORG, please visit the Western Water website at www.westernwater.com.au\/ORG<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It really is the last \u2018spill\u2019 anyone would want, but it can and does happen, so be prepared.
