{"id":31459,"date":"2024-09-28T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=31459"},"modified":"2024-09-25T21:35:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T11:35:00","slug":"luna-shines-in-bendigo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/luna-shines-in-bendigo\/","title":{"rendered":"Luna shines in Bendigo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HARNESS racing mare Luna Dream has won the Vicbred Silver pace at Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p>Trained by Warren Greene at small Mount Wallace horse stable Luna Lodge Harness, Luna Dream was driven to victory by James Herbertson last week.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She was in the four-year-old race for $20,000,&#8221; Mr Greene said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a fairly prestigious race, one level below the top 12.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She was 60 to 1 and the second lowest-rated horse in the race.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/09\/IMG-20240918-WA0010_55539.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"491\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From third last at the bell, Luna Dream and James Herbertson came down the sprint lane to win by a small distance. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With a brilliant drive, she managed to come from third last at the bell, to come down the sprint lane and win by a half-head.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was a lot of luck in the race &#8211; she didn&#8217;t get locked in &#8211; but James drove her brilliantly, and the horse in the last 100 metres was able to do the job.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Her winning time was her best winning time, and it was one of her fastest ever race times. It&#8217;s my biggest win and her biggest win, and totally unexpected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t get much better than having a win.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Vicbred series was set up to encourage the breeding of Victorian mares and stallions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/09\/460393210_5005908127_27255.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"386\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Luna Dream has placed in six out of the last seven races.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each year they have a series of races which are very prestigious,&#8221; Mr Greene said. &#8220;It&#8217;s an achievement to get into the Vicbred finals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But for those that don&#8217;t make the finals, there&#8217;s the silver and bronze races.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Luna Dream was the first-bred horse to be trained at Luna Lodge Harness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She has had 21 starts, three wins, two seconds and three thirds, and this season alone she&#8217;s had 11 starts for two wins, two seconds, and two thirds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Six out of the last seven races she&#8217;s placed, so she&#8217;s fit, healthy, and running well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Luna Dream has been nominated to race at Cranbourne this Sunday night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HARNESS racing mare Luna Dream has won the Vicbred Silver pace at Bendigo.
