{"id":32280,"date":"2024-11-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=32280"},"modified":"2024-11-13T21:43:20","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T10:43:20","slug":"cup-a-hit-now-for-next-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/cup-a-hit-now-for-next-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Cup a hit, now for next year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Community Bank Ballan and District Ballan Cup has been run and won, and organisers are already turning their attention to next year&#8217;s event.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the Ballan Jockey Club as its sole annual meeting, the Cup was held at the Geelong Racecourse last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Cup race itself, over 1518 metres and seventh on an eight-race card, was won by jockey Koby Jennings on Place of Gold, a six-year-old chestnut gelding trained by Clifford Brown, who is based at Mornington.<\/p>\n<p>He is sired by the stallion Turffontein out of the dam Beautiful Pleasure. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rogue Rocker placed second, followed by Van Roy in third.<\/p>\n<p>Ballan Jockey Club president Billy Smith said an estimated 2500 people attended the meeting \u2013 a result the club was very pleased with.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a bumper crowd; there were fantastic crowd numbers,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The community really gets behind it, which is great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Smith said a new feature this year, a Punters Club Lounge, had proven very popular.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And all our dining, marquee and hospitality packages were up,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone enjoyed a great day with the live entertainment and the children&#8217;s activities, as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/11\/Trophies_58166.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Community Bank Ballan and District Ballan Cup trophies await collection last Saturday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And as for the weather, Smith described conditions as &#8220;a perfect day for racing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Fashions on the Field competition and a community raffle also were on the list of activities.<\/p>\n<p>Smith acknowledged the event&#8217;s major sponsor, the Community Bank Ballan and District, for its continued contribution to the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We really appreciate their support,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Smith said the club was already planning for next year&#8217;s Cup, which is always held a week after the Melbourne Cup to coincide with Stakes Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Community Bank Ballan and District Ballan Cup has been run and won, and organisers are already turning their attention to next year&#8217;s event.
