\nThe 2019 \u2018Jumping Young Rider of the Year\u2019 award recipient and business-owner Emily Stirling will soon be part of the Channel Seven television show \u2018Jump Off\u2019.
\nThe program, which first aired in 2018, follows five teams on their journey to retrain retired racehorses into superstar showjumpers, culminating in a jump-off competition for $50,000.
\nAs for her involvement in the show, Ms Stirling said that \u201cthey wanted a young rider [on the show] to demonstrate that you don\u2019t have to be a senior rider to be able to produce a horse off-the-track.\u201d
\n\u201cThe show is really about promoting that after horses are finished racing \u2013 for whether they\u2019re too slow, have an injury, or they\u2019ve just had enough \u2013 that there is life after racing, and that we can make other uses for them, in particular show jumping,\u201d she said.
\nThe 20-year old sites local horse identity, Bob Closter \u2013 recent recipient of the Pony Club Australia \u2018Living Legends\u2019 Award (MN 16 July edition) \u2013 as the reason for getting into riding.
\n\u201cI grew up with my grandfather Geoff Closter, and we\u2019re related to Bob. I didn\u2019t have any horse knowledge; I just started doing my lessons and with Bob being close to the family, he found us our first pony, so he started that [journey],\u201d Ms Stirling said.
\nMs Stirling was selected to travel to Europe to represent Australia in 2017, and recently won the \u2018Jumping Young Rider of The Year\u2019 award at the Equestrian Victoria Awards on Saturday 20 July.
\nHer overseas achievements inspired Ms Stirling to create her own business back home, co-owning \u2018Cloroy Park\u2019 with her grandfather, Geoff Closter.
\n\u201cWhen I was overseas it became quite prominent to me that a lot of people just ride. They don\u2019t care for the horses, they just have someone else to do that for them,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cThat inspired me to come home and create a business where I could teach kids to learn more about the management, care and the love for the horse rather than just riding.\u201d
\nAfter starting out small, the business has grown via word-of-mouth, becoming a growing hotspot for riding lessons and arena hire.
\nMs Stirling is currently studying Equine Physiotherapy and a Diploma of Business but still has high ambitions for her sporting career, reaching as high as the Olympics.
\n\u201cMy goal is to jump in a World Cup within the next two-years, so hopefully to step up to that level; from there obviously the big dream is to go overseas and ride competitively because it\u2019s a big calibre of riding over there \u2013 so much bigger than Australia.\u201d
\n\u201cI just do it because I love it, not for any other reason. It\u2019s good to get the kids involved with horses, because they\u2019re amazing animals.\u201d
\n\u2018Jump Off\u2019 is set to air on Channel Seven later in the year.
