In the past, media reports nationally paint a disturbing picture about Aged Care workers, but it is a lot brighter closer to home.
\nAged Care Employee Day will be celebrated this Wednesday 7 August 2019 and Ballan District Health & Care are ready to thank their employees, just some of the 365,000 dedicated people who care and support around 1.3 million older Australians, who receive aged care and services each year.
\nOrganisers of Aged Care Employee Day said all Australians are being urged to reach out to people they know who work in aged care and help recognise the positive contribution they make to the lives of our older community members.
\nKym Hartup has been an Aged Care Nurse at Ballan District Health & Care for the last six-years and says that Aged Care Employee Day is a time for all of us to take a moment to recognise the excellent care that is being provided in our community by our colleagues, friends and family members.
\n\u201cIt is honestly a privilege to be involved in a resident\u2019s care \u2013 and I know how hard the carers work, they go the extra mile,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cMy role involves everything from running aged care shifts and working closely with doctors and carers, to having family conversations about care planning and ensuring Ballan\u2019s care continues to align with the new aged care standards.\u201d
\nMs Hartup said that Aged Care Employee Day is also a timely reminder for the community to become aware of the new aged care standards.
\n\u201cThese standards are going to be a significant part of the aged care workforce\u2019s role moving forward.\u201d
\nRowena Clift, BDH&C CEO, said there are eight standards, and each one is an aspect of care that contributes to resident safety, health and wellbeing.
\n\u201cOver the next few months, the health service will be featuring one standard per fortnight.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s important everyone in the community \u2013 residents, staff members and family members \u2013 are aware and understand the new aged care standards. This is how we continue to provide excellence in care here in Ballan,\u201d Ms Clift said.<\/p>\n
