MEMBER for Melton Steve McGhie has visited the site of a new mega water tank which he said will boost access to reliable drinking water in the electorate, and cater to population growth west of Melbourne.<\/p>\n
Mr McGhie said the tank is expected to have an operational life of 100 years and is an initiative of Greater Western Water and Aquametro.<\/p>\n
It’s expected to be ready to use by February.<\/p>\n
“The new tank will be able to hold 30 megalitres of water, which is almost double that of earlier tanks and the equivalent of 12 Olympic sized swimming pools,” a statement from the MP’s office said.<\/p>\n
“Melbourne’s west is one of our fastest growing regions, and this $24 million project is one of<\/p>\n
many supporting the growth of the Melton region which is increasing its population by\u00a0percent each year up to 2028.”<\/p>\n
Mr McGhie said it was exciting to see the tank almost ready for action.<\/p>\n
“[There is] nearly double the amount of water soon to be stored safely in the new tank shoring up supplies for the Melton community,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This project will help boost our water supplies here in Melton, ensuring we can provide safe and reliable drinking water for everyone who lives here now, and who will live here in 100 years’ time.”<\/p>\n
The tank is 11.5 metres high and 70 metres in diameter.<\/p>\n
Mr McGhie said the tank lets water flow downhill and provide water to the area, and will increase climate and population growth resilience.<\/p>\n
“This makes it more cost effective and energy efficient, as it reduces carbon emissions and costs associated with the use of pump stations,” the statement said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
