CHILDREN in Bacchus Marsh and Ballan are in for a treat when the National Gallery of Victoria’s Kids on Tour – Drop in Art Session visits the Lerderderg and Ballan Libraries next week.<\/p>\n
The program, which began in 2014 with nine venues in Melbourne, has expanded to 156 venues across the state, including libraries, community houses and hospitals, and aims to bring art and creativity to diverse communities.<\/p>\n
Stephanie Pohlman, senior project coordinator for community and access programs at NGV, said the opportunity to engage in creative activities is special, no matter where you are.<\/p>\n
“That’s what Kids on Tour is all about,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Engaging in art fosters creative thinking and problem-solving skills, which is great for wellbeing.”<\/p>\n
“You don’t necessarily need to be an artist or have seen a lot of art before. You can come together with your family, friends, or even grandparents, get creative, have a chat, and just enjoy the experience.”<\/p>\n
Ms Pohlman said if you’re running out of ideas to keep the kids entertained these holidays, you can’t go wrong taking them along to either event.<\/p>\n
“Get them involved in creative art-making activities,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Sit down, make something together, and have a really fun time. The best part is that all the activities are free!”<\/p>\n
Lerderderg Library’s Kids on Tour – Drop in Art Session takes place on Tuesday 14 January from 10am to 2pm while Ballan Library’s Session takes place on Friday 17 January from midday to 4pm.<\/p>\n
Bookings aren’t required for either event.<\/p>\n
