{"id":33124,"date":"2025-01-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=33124"},"modified":"2025-01-23T09:54:15","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T22:54:15","slug":"club-stalwart-recognised-with-life-membership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/club-stalwart-recognised-with-life-membership\/","title":{"rendered":"Club stalwart recognised with life membership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLAN Cricket Club has rewarded long-time player and leader Michael Snaith for his years of dedication by inducting him as a life member last Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Snaith, an all-rounder, has been part of the club for more than 15 years and has won most of the awards on offer.<\/p>\n<p>He has served as a junior coach, as a member of the club committee, and was senior captain for three seasons.<\/p>\n<p>His trophy cabinet includes best under-14 player, best under-16 player, McConnell Family Champion (three times) and four senior premierships. He has also won the Ballarat Cricket Association&#8217;s Bernie Davie Medal for the best and fairest player and the 2nd Grade Champion honour.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2025\/01\/IMG_6035_08780.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"494\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ballan&#8217;s top scorer Jack Jarvis pulls for runs on his way to 26.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Snaith, who spent two seasons playing in a first division team in Ballarat, has played 250 games and has statistics of more than 3000 runs and 230 wickets.<\/p>\n<p>The club honoured Snaith with a function at the Ballan Recreation Reserve as he prepares to move overseas with his family.<\/p>\n<p>In match results from last weekend&#8217;s round, Ballan (7\/170) defeated Wendouree (6\/147) in senior women&#8217;s ranks, while the senior men&#8217;s first XI was all out for 142 and Wendouree was 3\/64 at stumps.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2025\/01\/IMG_6196_13666.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"515\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ballan captain Hayden Micallef has 2\/23 so far in the match against Wendouree, which continues this weekend.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The senior men&#8217;s second XI scored 139 and was defeated by Ballarat Redan, which ended on 5\/141.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the women&#8217;s game included the club&#8217;s youngest debutante, 12-year-old Layla Shugg, making her first appearance, and a 132-run partnership by Summer Dehnert and Rebecca Humphryis.<\/p>\n<p>Their partnership included Dehnert&#8217;s maiden 50 and Humphryis&#8217;s top score of 24.<\/p>\n<p>Dehnert backed up her performance with the bat by claiming three wickets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2025\/01\/IMG_6243a_15685.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"455\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Honoured: Ballan Cricket Club&#8217;s latest life member Michael Snaith.
