{"id":33624,"date":"2025-03-02T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-01T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=33624"},"modified":"2025-02-27T14:19:12","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T03:19:12","slug":"athletes-heading-tostate-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/athletes-heading-tostate-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletes heading to state championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BACCHUS Marsh Little Athletics Centre members have returned from the Western Metro Region Track and Field Championships with 10 gold medals.<\/p>\n<p>The club also took home 10 silver and 10 bronze medals.<\/p>\n<p>In total, 18 little athletes from the club progressed through to the state championships.<\/p>\n<p>The athletes faced cold and windy conditions, and committee member Linda Thompson said they did the club proud.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The kids did exceptionally well,&#8221; Ms Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We compete in the Western Metro region which is a pretty strong region; we&#8217;re up against the bigger centres like Geelong, Werribee, Williamstown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a good opportunity for those kids to get a gauge of where they&#8217;re at heading into the state championships.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2025\/03\/AlexisFarrell_44379.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"988\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Mary&#8217;s Primary School, Clarkes Hill&#8217;s Alexis Farrell broke the region under-12 girls discus record with a throw of 31.17 metres.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, Saturday 1 March, athletes will be taking to the track for the annual relaython, raising money for the Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Athletes will run a continuous relay from 7am until noon.<\/p>\n<p>Donations can be made at <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/435lEdl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bit.ly\/435lEdl<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re calling on all the community and local businesses to get on board and support our aim,&#8221; Ms Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everybody has been affected at some stage or perhaps had somebody close to them involved with the Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it&#8217;s important that we all get behind it and give for the kids.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BACCHUS Marsh Little Athletics Centre members have returned from the Western Metro Region Track and Field Championships with 10 gold medals.
