A RETURNING event will soon give people another chance to sell their goods from either their car or a market stall.<\/p>\n
After its successful debut last year, members of the Mount Egerton Recreation Reserve committee are bringing back their market and car boot sale fundraiser.<\/p>\n
Organiser and committee member Kathryn Long said proceeds from the event will continue to go towards much-needed reserve maintenance.<\/p>\n
“We’re eventually wanting to redo the tennis courts, and we have stuff going on inside with split systems, lighting, things like that,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We also want to hopefully create basketball nets and a netball hoop.”<\/p>\n
The debut event saw some 150 people perusing items from nearly 40 vehicles parked at the reserve’s oval.<\/p>\n
Originally billed solely as a car boot event, the return instalment is being expanded with businesses and individuals also invited to bring their own marquees, trestle tables and change to take part via stall setup.<\/p>\n
“This time we’ve decided to change it from a car boot sale to a market as well because we’ve had a few businesses interested so we thought it’d get even more businesses to come along,” Ms Long said.<\/p>\n
Entry will be free but sellers will need to pay a $20 fee, which will go towards the upgrade project.<\/p>\n
A raffle, sausage sizzle, coffee van and children’s activities will also be present.<\/p>\n
Ms Long estimated more than $1000 was raised from last year’s sale, which was complemented with other events throughout 2024 including a Halloween party, two paint and sip sessions, a bonfire and a movie night.<\/p>\n
A similar program is expected to take place this year.<\/p>\n
“We’ve also had about $50,000 in grants through council and Bendigo Bank for what is probably all up a $100,000 project,” Ms Long said.<\/p>\n
“This upgrade project will be an ongoing project that will take a few years to complete. We probably started work on this about 18 months ago.”<\/p>\n
The event will take place on Sunday 23 March.<\/p>\n
Stallholders are to arrive at 9am with the sale open to the community from 10am to 2pm.<\/p>\n
