{"id":34276,"date":"2025-04-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=34276"},"modified":"2025-04-24T15:45:28","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T05:45:28","slug":"official-designation-for-steiglitz-heritage-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/official-designation-for-steiglitz-heritage-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Official designation for Steiglitz heritage events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EVENTS in Steiglitz this weekend have been made an official part of the Australian Heritage Festival for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>The Back to Steiglitz Association will host several guided tours, site visits, morning and afternoon teas, and an exhibition of work by local artists on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The national festival runs until 18 May.<\/p>\n<p>Association secretary Gillian Dickson said securing official heritage festival status made things easier in terms of organising, hosting and managing tours and other activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a bit more organised,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Dickson said the association had only about 10 members and hosting and managing tours and similar activities could sometimes be difficult.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34277\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34277\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-34277\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2025\/04\/MelBevaninCostumeat_30861.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"346\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34277\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mel Bevan in costume outside the old Steiglitz courthouse, which will host an exhibition of works by local artists. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The group holds an annual Back to Steiglitz day each year and has hosted group and club visits before, but never on a formal, managed basis.<\/p>\n<p>The Steiglitz component of the heritage festival will be under the banner of Memories of the Golden Past.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Dickson said local people would act as guides for the tours, and more than 15 bookings had already been received.<\/p>\n<p>The first two activities will take place from 10.30am to 11.30am and will offer a choice of either a bushwalk or a town history walk.<\/p>\n<p>The second two, from 2pm to 3pm, will be a choice of a cemetery tour or a mine site visit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2025\/04\/SuggsBlacksmithCot_34681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"585\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sugg&#8217;s Blacksmith Cottage is a site of interest in Steiglitz.
